"R.M.S. Titanic: Lasting Legacy, Enduring Impact"

When it comes to dominating the world’s attention, the Titanic is without parallel; 112 years after the disaster,  her impact on the modern world,  maritime practices, and popular culture is stronger than ever.  In the aftermath of the Titan implosion in summer 2023, it has become all the more imperative to consider the close parallels between the Titanic and Titan disasters. Kelly Skwarcan, a  Titanic researcher, speaker, and the author of Iron & Ice: The Full Tale of the Titanic will make the case for the Titanic's particular relevance in 2024 and unpack the big-picture questions of “Why Titanic?”—“Why then, now, and in future?” This talk is sure to educate and enthrall both those new to the Titanic’s story and long-time enthusiasts.

"Leadership in Crisis: The Titanic, Carpathia, & Californian"

“Leadership in Crisis: the Titanic, the Carpathia, & the Californian” is an interactive hour-length presentation led by Kelly Skwarcan, the author of Iron & Ice: The Full Tale of the Titanic. Created with Naval ROTC programs in mind, but suitable for all leadership-oriented groups, this talk examines the psychology of leadership in crisis with a little-known piece of the Titanic disaster as a historical case study. Through dynamic storytelling, and small and large group discussion, participants place themselves in the position of junior and senior-level crew members onboard a nearby vessel, which sat unmoving as Titanic’s distress rockets were fired, one by one, into the night sky. The unique integration of psychology, decision-forcing, and history’s most infamous maritime disaster offered by this presentation will both educate and enthrall.
